Nick Buckley is suffering from a run of bad luck. First, the brakes on her car fail, then a falling boulder misses her by inches. Later, an oil painting fell and almost crushed her head. Upon discovering a bullet hole in Nick’s sun hat, Poirot decides the woman needs his protection. He begins to unravel the mystery of a murder that hasn’t been committed.. yet.
This was so different to any Christie book I’ve read. The fact there isn’t a murder to investigate is such a different angle to take. I really enjoyed the book, the story was great and for once I was genuinely shocked at the reveal! I hadn’t even considered the outcome that occurred, which is great. The reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because I sometimes found I was getting characters mixed up- this is because of the fact they tend to sometimes refer to characters by their first name and other times as Miss or Mr and use their last name. I understand this is just the time it was written that people didn’t always use first names but I felt like maybe picking one or the other would have led to less confusion for me. But overall, nobody writes mysteries quite like Agatha Christie. This is one of the more complex mysteries because of the fact Nick has not been killed, but for me one of the more enjoyable Christie books I’ve read in a while. Would definitely recommend!
