Since women were not considered acceptable business partners in this time period, especially in such an unsavory “profession,” Cora sometimes masquerades as her own twin brother, Jacob. She is doing a great job until rumors name her as the elusive girl with two hearts. The hunter quickly becomes the hunted since she is now worth more dead than alive. Will Cora be able to outrun and/or outsmart her enemies before they find her and kill her?

Books set in NYC are my favorites and the 1850s time period was intriguing and kept reminding me of The Golem and the Jinni (4 stars) which is set in NYC in 1900. It seems like such a rough, dirty, gritty time and place, and all of that was especially true in this story about grave robbers. This was my first time reading about that topic, and I found it fascinating. I would recommend this one for mystery fans looking for a twisty and dark look at the lengths 19th century doctors went to perfect their craft!
