TRUTHS I NEVER TOLD YOU (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) by @kelrimmerwrites
Genre: Historical Fiction / Women’s Fiction
After siblings Tim, Ruth, Jeremy and Beth move father, Patrick (who suffers from dementia) into a nursing home, they discover secrets from their childhood while cleaning out his house. Among the disaster in their old playroom, for instance, they find letters written by their long-dead mother, Grace. Did she really die in a car accident like their father told them? Who is the man described in her letters? Surely it isn’t their beloved, kind-hearted father! “The more difficult life is, the louder your feelings become.” This was my first time reading a book by Kelly Rimmer, and I was gripped by the story from the very first pages. This was a powerful and heart wrenching story about love (in its many forms), postpartum depression, and the unbreakable bond between siblings. I liked that there was a bit of a mystery as the siblings tried to figure out how their mom died nearly 40 years ago. I loved that the old letters from Grace were intermingled with the story, and the ending made me shed a few tears.
If you were moved by this book, then I would highly recommend My Notorious Life by Kate Manning (4 stars). Location: 1957 and 1996 Seattle, Washington (Bellevue suburb)
